2024-25 Recreation Program - Winter 2024

The recreation program is available for boys in grades K-8 and girls in K-6 who reside in the West Shore School District. The anticipated divisions are listed below. All players should register for the offering corresponding to their grade. Offerings are tentative and subject to change based on the number of registered coaches and players.

Boys: K-1, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6

- Registration closes November 3rd at midnight
- Evaluations are November 3rd at Red Land; Grades 1-2: 1pm-2pm; Grades 3-4: 2:30pm-3:30pm; Grades 5-6: 4pm-5pm; Kindergarteners do not need to attend evaluations
- Coaches meeting on November 10th at Red Land from 6pm-8pm
- Practices start December 3rd; Grades K-4 practice 1x per week; Grades 5-6 practice 2x per week
- Games start January 4th & 5th and end February 22nd & 23rd
- Boys 3-4 tournament on February 22nd; Boy 5-6 Tournament on February 23rd

Girls: K-1, 2-3, 4-6

- Registration closes November 3rd at midnight
- Evaluations are October 21st & 22nd at Red Land from 6pm-8pm; attend either session; arrive anytime; allow 20-30 minutes for evaluation
- Coaches meeting on November 7th at Red Mill from 6pm-7pm
- Practices start December 3rd; Grades K-1 practice Thursday nights; Grades K-3 practice 1x per week; Grades 4-6 practice 2x per week
- Games start January 4th & 5th and end February 22nd & 23rd
- All Star game for grades 4-6 on February 22nd at Cedar Cliff

Boys: 7-8

- Registration closes November 23rd
- No evaluations
- Session dates are: 12/14, 12/21, 1/4, 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8
- Sessions will include 30 minutes of practice with volunteer coach followed by multiple games

Frequently Asked Questions

When/where are evaluations for boys?: November 3rd at Red Land. 1st/2nd: 1p-2p, 3rd/4th: 2:30p-3:30p, 5th/6th: 4p-5p. No evals for K, 7, or 8.

When/where are evaluations for girls?: October 21st & 22nd at Red Land from 6pm-8pm; attend either session, arrive anytime, allow 20-30 minutes

When/where are practices?: Boys K-4 and Girls K-3 are 1x/week; Boys 5-6 and Girls 4-6 are 2x/week; Practices are Mon-Fri at a West Shore School District facility starting December 3rd

When/where are games played?: All games are played on Saturdays. The first games will be January 4th.

What equipment do I need?: Sneakers and water. Basketballs and jerseys will be provided.

What size basketballs do you use?: Boys: K-2 Size 5 (27.5"), 3-6 Size 6 (28.5"), 7-8 Size 7 (29.5") Girls: K-3 Size 5 (27.5"), 4-6 Size 6 (28.5")

Can I play rec and travel basketball?: Boys may NOT play both. Girls may play both.

Is financial assistance available?: Yes, for those who qualify. Please visit https://everykidsports.org for more information. Applications for Winter 2024 will be accepted starting in October.

Is there an app for team communication?: Yes, we use TeamSideline and it is available for Apple and Android devices. There is a direct link at the bottom of our website at https://www.rlyb.org.
